To Jerm (and all History majors and teachers)...

This was actually taken from a quote from V.M.Molotov, one of Stalin's man, in a speech given at a reception in the Kremlin, 17 may 1938.

The speech was applied to Communist Russia at that time but just tweak a few words here and there and it applies to everyone. He said...

"But in order to build the new society out of this material one must have a clear vision of the goal and the road to its attainment... unless one masters Maxism-Leninism (or in our case "studying history"), which illuminates the genral path of historical development, and reveals the meaning of contemporary events, it is impossible to participate consciously in the historic events of our time."

Isn't this true Jerm? So many reasons why the world is what it is today, is because it is shaped by it's history and past cultural, e.g why Germany was so obsessed with military because in ancient times poor German states were always invaded by France and Britain. Or France and Britain fought against each other on German soil (now this is really called suay man).

Maybe it's just me rambling and talking crap...

wah. so cheem can? and hahah- i HATE historiography a.k.a why we study history.
i think history is shaped by great men who set things in motion and influence little ppl like us. and as all things come with consequences, history can be said to be a continuous story shaped by the snowballing of all these consequences (i always think of the game where we continue a story by each adding one line to the plot- haha )
