Just like in the movies!

I went on a small road-trip yesterday and it turned out to be quite an adventure. Tyla, Joey, Kim and I went up to Logan (a 2 hour drive away) for Cari and Bob's wedding.
If a movie was made about it, it would be called "The Attack of the Flying Blob on Betty (name of Joey's car)". If there was a script for the "mini-adventure", it would be something like this...

Scene 1, Take 1 (and may it only be once!)

Background/ backdrop: HORRIBLE WEATHER. It was freezing, raining, and the wind was blowing everything. Even riding in the car was quite scary because you could feel the wind pushing against the car.

Cast and script:
Tyla, Joey and Keshia had just picked up Kim at Draper and entered the highway when

BOOM!

This huge rectangular object just suddenly smashes against the car's windshield wipers. The windshield wipers in turn hit against the windshield and cracks the windshield. The windshield does NOT shatter into pieces (thank goodness!), but there are some major cracks...

Keshia: AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!! (as usual she's the loudest)
Tyla (hands covering eyes): AAARRRGGGHHH!!!
Kim: ARGH! (She's the soft-spoken one)
Joey: OH FREAK! (The man...)

Everyone freezes.

Joey quickly gets off to the shoulder of the road, then checks what the heck that was.
Turns out it was the HOOD of his 1989 Honda Civic (I tell you, Honda Civics last FOREVER)!!! It was so old that the hood had come a bit loose, but hadn't caused any problems before. This time however, the wind was just too strong and it completely blew the hood loose and sent it smashing upwards, straight into the windshield!

Now how's that for some drama?!

I think it's a blessing that it happened just after we picked up Kim because a) we would have been in serious trouble if this happened in the rural mountainous areas, and b) Kim knew exactly where Target was so that we could go in and buy some rope. As we were (literally) crawling our way from the highway to Target, the hood flew up and smashed into the windshield at least two more times. We just kept holding our breath and praying for safety, especially since the hood would cover the entire screen and we couldn't see where we were driving.

With the Lord's blessing, we reached Target and managed to buy some straps/ ropes to secure the hood to the car temporarily. We then drove all the way to Logan AND back with the straps/ ropes still hanging in there.

Well, the drive up there was certainly something I would NEVER FORGET. Makes Cari and Bob's wedding even more unforgettable, right?!
By the way, their wedding reception was small and cosy and really nice. Because of the snow (yes, snow in Springtime- ghastly! Horrifying! But Cari wanted a Winter wedding anyway and I guess the Lord gave her one!), they had to move the reception into the house, and the house was just lovely! The wedding cake was a delicious strawberry shortcake, and Bob's stepmother made authentic Italian cookies and sparkling fruit juice-punch. Cari looked GORGOEUS!!! Bob looked great too in his green vest. Plus, it was soooo nice to have a "mini room-mate reunion" and get together and talk. I MISS ALL OF THEM!!!

I was so impressed with Joey. His windshield was a goner, he was the poor sole person who had to tie the hood to the car in the freezing cold (we ladies gave him moral support from inside the car...), and that the first straps didn't work so he had to go in and change the ropes and re-tie them again... But despite all these setbacks, he was still so optimistic. He didn't complain at all, and simply went about trying to solve the problem. It was because of his good attitude that I was also optimistic and giggling because this was turning out to be quite an adventure.

Thank goodness there was a guy with us! Guys can be quite dumb but they do have their usefulness...
